How every number is calculated

What this estimator covers

This walks through your return the way the Belastingdienst does: Box 1 taxes your salary, RSUs and other work income (minus the 30% ruling allowance, mortgage interest and other deductions, plus the eigenwoningforfait if you own a home). Box 2 covers dividends and gains if you own 5%+ of a company. Box 3 taxes a deemed return on your savings and investments above the tax-free allowance — reduced by debts above the threshold.

Why your partner matters

With a fiscal partner, the Box 3 tax-free allowance and the debt threshold both double, and you may divide deductions like mortgage interest between you. Each partner still files their own return with their own labour and general tax credits.

Why your mortgage matters

Mortgage interest on your own home is deductible in Box 1, but two things trim the benefit: the eigenwoningforfait (a small percentage of your WOZ value added back to income) and a cap — the deduction is worth at most 37.56% in 2026, shown as a separate "rate adjustment" line.

FAQ

Is this the same as my Belastingdienst assessment?

It's an estimate using 2026 rates and the most common situations. Real assessments include details this can't know — exact payroll withholding, the arbeidskorting on multiple jobs, provisional assessments. Use it to understand and sanity-check your return, not to file it.

Do I enter my mortgage debt in Box 3?

No. A mortgage on your own home belongs to Box 1 (interest is deductible there). Only other debts — student loans, personal loans — go in Box 3, and only the amount above the threshold counts.

What if my partner earns more than me?

Enter your own figures here. Partners can shift some deductions (like mortgage interest) to whoever benefits most — this estimator assumes your own share as entered.
